An auto ethnographic exploration and discursive examination of masculinity in New Zealand. Men are subject to multiple and often contradictory discourse. A dominating and oppressive masculinity discourse exists that traditionally defines 'real men' through strength, stoicism and heteronormativity. There is however, nothing inherent to the definition of a man. Masculinities are socially constructed and therefore it is possible to change them.
I am a Graphic Designer and Photographer. In both areas I like to push the boundaries of traditional design practises, and normative social expectations. Design and photography are complementary skills, and my main interests currently lie in editorial design, fashion and fine arts photography.
