A surface (skin) separates that which is conscious from unconscious, the duality of the mind and the sea are synonymous. What comes from outside and what I bring forth from inside are forever in a complex process of intertwining and disconnecting. Like a ripple on the surface the first stroke infers what will come next. The water flows and the paint follows, it is always unfolding, always becoming. Yet always disappearing, washing away, fading.
My painting practice draws directly from the landscape around me. I respond to patterns - some that I search for, some as a result of a less conscious awareness I have for my surroundings. As much as I shape the landscape it shapes me.
