‘Shaped to fit’ is a practise-led project that challenges existing high stretch pattern making practices by applying alternative pattern methodologies to design and make a collection of swimwear. The singular pattern shapes are informed by crucial body points and lines that determine specific grainlines and seam lines most beneficial for the fit of the garment. This provides the sports person with comfort and support during recreational activity.
As a creative practitioner and fashion educator my specialism is contoured knit apparel design. I am intrigued by the pattern design shapes, qualities of fit, support and movement achieved with high stretch knit fabrics. Other areas include shaping textiles into forms to evoke emotional response.
