My work aims to recreate my encounters with ancient objects without negating their historical significance. Using evocative raw materials, I construct minimalist forms that respond to the physical space it is occupying and the contextual space it comes from. Caldarium investigates the unseen architectural structure of the Hypocaust, an ancient underfloor heating system which utilises the space between clay pillars to circulate hot air.
As an artist I explore my obsession with ancient, imperfect, and worn objects through the use of readymade and manufactured sculpture. I consider the object’s enigmatic origins and the endless number of questions that I can ask, but never quite answer.
